Semiose

La galerie

Founded in 2007 in the 20th arrondissement of Paris before moving to the Marais in 2011, Semiose immediately established itself in the artistic landscape as a gallery with a program rooted in the margins. Nourished by underground cultures, it champions forms and ideas born in political, social, or geographical fringes.
Citational practice constitutes a common reference point for the artists represented by the gallery and raises complex questions related to the production of images and their dissemination, the role and meaning of archives, and visual culture in the broadest sense. Semiose promotes an aesthetic founded on questions of taste and, consequently, cultural hierarchies. Techniques of collage, appropriation, and détournement are shared by most of the artists, hence a converging interest in representation, reference to the real and the everyday.
Young artists stand alongside historical figures or artists of international stature. Over time and through patient professional networking, institutions and public collections have forged enduring bonds with the artists promoted by the gallery.

Le projet

On the occasion of the first edition of Signatures Art Fair, Semiose presents a selection of artists’ editions from the gallery: Amélie Bertrand, Françoise Pétrovitch, Laurent Proux, Ernest T. and Xie Lei.
