GALERIA LA CAJA NEGRA
La galerie
Since its opening in 1998, Galería La Caja Negra has developed a program of exhibitions and publications by artists whose conceptual approach is rooted in the tradition of contemporary printmaking. The gallery publishes and presents prints, works on paper, photographs, artist books, and unique pieces. It participates annually in various international art fairs, including ARCO, ZONA MACO, IFPDA Print Fair, ArtBO, Pinta London, and Pinta NY. La Caja Negra holds a significant collection of works by renowned contemporary printmakers, as well as an archive documenting the practice of printmaking in the context of modern art. It is a member of the IFPDA (International Fine Print Dealers Association).
Le projet
We offer a selection of editions illustrating the scope of possibilities in contemporary publishing. Ignasi Aballi presents a conceptual work referencing historical formats of cartographic engravings. For several years, José Pedro Croft has been developing a printmaking project closely linked to his sculptural practice. Irma Alvarez Laviada has created chalcographic monotypes where she playfully engages with elementary forms in a performative and random manner. Betsabée Romero presents a series inspired by her famous tire sculptures. We also feature a collection of screen prints by Mathias Goeritz, who developed a major sculptural and architectural body of work in the Mexican context following his collaborations with Luis Barragán.
