Éditions Sylvain Courbois

Sylvain Courbois founded E.S.C. in 2018 to focus on developing book projects, prints, and artist multiples. E.S.C. occasionally supports artists in exploring methods and techniques they had never previously used. This led to the creation of Raphaël Zarka's Espaces Gnomoniques in 2024: two-dimensional sculptures made from ceramic modules, a system jointly devised by the artist and the publisher to allow the former to reconcile his painting and sculpture practices.
These projects involve a long-term journey, a form of partnership between the artist and the publisher. Much like a music producer, the goal is to create a bridge between the artist and the audience, and sometimes between the artists themselves. The multiple Lux-Lux (2019), consisting of a lithograph by Harold Ancart and a sculpture by Michel François, brings the works of two artist friends into resonance. Before any publishing project, there is first the fortunate meeting between the artist and the publisher, and a shared desire to find the path toward a singular object together.

E.S.C. presents various projects produced with Julio Le Parc, ranging from his first collection of poems—composed of 48 texts and 12 lithographs that can be freely combined—to "La Longue Marche," the largest print he has ever created. Michel François will be featured with a collaborative multiple in which a luminous plaster sculpture illuminates an incandescent match by his friend Harold Ancart. Friendship is also celebrated in the multiples of Raphaël Zarka and Christian Hidaka, who are developing a joint body of work titled "The Parallel." Also featured are the Quistrebert brothers and their synesthetic project SLOWAVE; a sensory experience with the ecstasy drawings of Dorothy Iannone; and a taurobolic altar with a series of bronzes by Claudine Monchaussé.
